WHAT WE DISCOVERED
The K-Cup is very popular in America. It makes coffee in about half the time of drip coffee makers. The problem with single brew K-Cups/pods, even though they're more convenient, is that they can't be recycled. They just pile up in our landfills. We surveyed the staff at our school, and some staff members had no idea that K-Cups couldn't be recycled! Not only are K-Cups not recyclable, but they are really expensive. When using K-Cups, the estimated cost of coffee per pound is $30.00-$50.00. Compared to traditional coffee makers, that is expensive. Our survey showed that our staff was concerned about the waste and cost of using K-Cups. Almost all surveyed are considering choosing a more Earth friendly option. Our solution to the K-Cup problem is to promote awareness and persuade people to switch to reusable, refillable K-Cups or just stop using K-Cups all together.
